It does happen from time to time that a player is eliminated through no fault of their own, merely because of a terrible draw, and it is not enjoyable for anybody involved in the game.

However, spell cards may also be utilized to sabotage your opponents’ plans by making the heroes that enter their dungeon stronger, opposing their own spell card, and a variety of other tactics.

If you receive three wounds, your dungeon boss will be defeated, and you will be booted out of the game immediately.


While the package just contains cards, a quick start guide, and a rulebook, the game is nonetheless fun to play. In this place, there is nothing of poor quality. It’s convenient that the box isn’t too large, allowing you to easily carry it with you. I appreciate the fast start guide since it assists me in recalling the rules when I haven’t played this game in a long period of time.

Then there’s the artwork on the cards. And I have to say, it’s really excellent, really wonderful. Throughout the entire game, the 8-bit aesthetic that is prevalent is quite appealing to me. That was also one of the factors that influenced my decision to purchase this game.


Due to the fact that this is a card game, you will always require a touch of luck in order to obtain the appropriate cards to play. However, I was always under the impression that my possibilities for expanding my dungeon were relatively restricted. On sometimes, I would like to strategically construct a chamber in order to attract the attention of certain heroes, but I lacked the resources to do this task. And there will be occasions when you will just lose since you do not have any strong rooms and a horde of heroes is attempting to grab your wealth.

And while I believe that this is unavoidable in a card game, it may seem quite constrained at times because you have little control over it, which is frustrating.

Alternatively, provide an action that the player may perform in order to draw additional room cards.

Different heroes

Different heroes appearing in the game is a very welcome addition to the game’s overall experience. There is even a hero who travels to the dungeon with the fewest points in order to save the world. And I believe heroes of such kind are ideal for such a game, in which it is easy to fall behind on the other players’ progress. It would have been fantastic if there had been more conditional heroes, in my opinion. For example, one that is awarded to the strongest player or heroes that possess a unique skill.

Is it any good?

Despite the fact that Boss Monster appears to be a fun game, it is not one that I will be playing any time soon. I adore the aesthetic and concept of the game, as well as the heroes that come into your dungeon to help you beat your boss, but I believe there are some aspects of the game that are simply not enjoyable for us. I would have liked to have had more choice with the room cards as well as certain spell cards that were less penalizing. While you can use a variety of methods in your dungeon, the strongest rooms will almost always come out on top in the long run.

As strange as it may seem given the fact that they are two completely different games, I’m curious if the same elements that make engine construction interesting in Wingspan would also work in this game.

If a Hero is enticed into a dungeon and vanquished, the purpose of the boss monster is to collect 10 Souls. A player can lose if his or her Boss gets five Wounds from Heroes who survive the dungeon, which is the case in Boss Monster.

Anyone who has played video games such as Bloons or Kingdom Rush knows that you must essentially create fortifications in order to keep opposing forces from reaching you and inflicting enough damage on you that you are forced to quit the game.

To begin the game, each player is assigned a Boss (each of whom has a particular power that is activated at a specified time in the game; more on this later), who is then put in front of each player to symbolize the “end” of their dungeon (more on this later).

The ability to dive into this new content as soon as I am able excites me because I believe that with the right additions, this game can only get better from here.

Assuming that more recent expansions are able to add some variety to the card types that players draw in any given game (as I suspect they do), I would expect that the game has only gotten better with the newer content that has been released for it, but that will have to wait until another day before we can tell for sure.
