  • Make a decision on your preferred mode of play – OPEN SEASON or LEGIT (See below for details) Organize yourselves into groups of two people. Alternatively, if there are an odd number of players, a team of three can be formed. In a 60-second period, each team will attempt to interpret as many sentences as possible. Each side has two players, one of whom is a READER and the other of whom is an INTERPRETER. (The individual who has gone the greatest period of time without cleaning their teeth is the first to depart.) Reader inserts a Mouth Piece in his or her mouth and is the only one who is permitted to look at the sentence. The timer is activated when everything is ready. The Reader communicates with the Interpreter by reading the word or phrase on the screen. If the Interpreter does not accurately predict and repeat what the Reader is saying, the Reader will be disqualified. The Interpreter must state the sentence precisely as it appears on the card. Other teams have the chance to inspect the card and verify its correctness. Each right interpretation results in one point being awarded. A team cannot pass a card – unless it is a Bonus Card – to another team. BONUS CARDS are more challenging and are worth an additional 2 points on the test. There will be no other cards on which the Reader or Interpreter will be permitted to pass
  • Each game is comprised of four rounds. When each team has gone once around the circle, the round is over. Following each round, the positions are reversed: the Reader takes on the role of the Interpreter, and the Interpreter takes on the role of the Reader. The team with the most points at the end of four rounds is declared the winner! If there is a tie, continue to play rounds until one team has more points
  • Otherwise, stop.
  • Drawing, writing, or illustrating are not permitted by the Reader
  • Nevertheless, broad motions and noises as well as other allusions are permitted.
  • The Reader is NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE HINTS OF ANY KIND – he or she can simply repeat the lines and nod “yes” or “no.”
  • ALL of the players have been divided into two groups
  • Each group now has one READER who takes turns reading, and the rest of the team players are all INTERPRETERS. Follow the same guidelines as before
  • In each round, a new reader is selected by popular vote
  • Try to avoid having the same reader appear twice.

What is The Watch Your Mouth Game?

If your family and friends have become tired of traditional party games such as Monopoly, Clue, and Cards Against Humanity, then this wonderful party game is for you! Teams compete in Watch Your Mouth, in which they must try to decode hints in order to score points. This may seem similar toPictionary or Charades, but the gameplay is entirely different from those games. What’s great about Watch Ya’ Mouth is that it’s entertaining for the entire family, and you receive a variety of mouthpieces so that youngsters can participate as well.

Your next game night will be a smashing success when you play this fantastic party game.

What You’ll Need To Play?

The expansions may also be purchased separately from the base game. Adults, in particular, may find the NSFW expansion, which has more adult-oriented cards, to be entertaining.

As a result, you can have a better understanding of how the game works.

Mouthpieces

You’ll receive a variety of mouthpieces in a variety of colors, including several that are suitable for children. It is possible to wash and disinfect the mouthpieces in boiling water, which is FDA and CE approved and dishwasher safe, as well as in boiling water. Make certain that you are using the proper-sized mouthpiece; it should not be too tight or too loose.

Phrase Cards

During each round, these cards are used to instruct the players on what they need to say next.

In addition, bonus cards are available in the game, which award additional points if your teammate correctly guesses the hidden phrase.

Timer

With the Watch Ya’ Mouth games set, you’ll receive a timer that lasts 60 seconds. You may, of course, use a stopwatch or a smartphone app if that is more convenient for you.

Rules and Gameplay

Watch Ya’ Mouth’s goal is to have a good time! It doesn’t matter whether you win or lose, unless you’re highly competitive, in which case it does matter. The game is played between two teams over four rounds, with the winner being the side with the most points at the end of the game.

The Set-Up

The first step is to divide the group of participants into two teams. In an ideal situation, both sides would have an equal number of players. For example, the Watch Ya’ Mouth game may be played with a maximum of 10 players, allowing you to divide your party into two groups of five individuals if you so want. A team will have an additional member if there are an odd number of persons participating in the game. Once the teams have been formed, it is necessary to choose who will go first. After that, each team will take a turn and have 60 seconds to complete their task.

The Rules

You will either be the reader or the interpreter when it is your team’s time. Ideally, each player should have the opportunity to serve as the reader at least once over the four rounds, if not more often. The reader will insert the mouthpiece and then remove a phrase card from his or her pocket. The timer will then be activated, and the reader will be required to attempt to say the sentence to the interpreters on their team within the allotted time. By nodding your head, you may indicate to your teammates that they were accurate in their guesses.

  1. Bonus cards, which feature longer and more complicated words, are worth two points!
  2. This gaming cycle is repeated by each team for a total of four rounds.
  3. Normally, the reader is only able to pronounce the sentence printed on their card.
  4. We should therefore have a look at how they function, shall we?

Open Season Rules

The game Watch Ya’ Mouth can be shockingly difficult for first-time players. To make the game a bit less difficult, you may use the Open Season rules instead of the normal ones. The reader can use these guidelines to gesture, mimic, and create sounds in an attempt to better communicate with their teammates. In this way, the reader will have more alternatives, which should (hopefully) make guessing the phrase at least a little less difficult. When starting off with the Watch Ya’ Mouth game, it is generally advised that newcomers stick to the Open Season regulations for their first few matches.

Watch Ya Mouth Ultimate Edition Takes the Original Game Up a Notch

When no one can understand what you’re saying, it can be difficult to keep your mouth shut! In Watch Ya Mouth Ultimate, a game for ages 8 and up from Buffalo Games, three to ten players must work together to ensure that their teammates understand what they are saying. While doing so, they must maintain a sense of levity. In this game, players take turns wearing a plastic mouth expander, which pulls the gums away from their teeth in a manner similar to what you’d see at the dentist. This set includes both small and large mouth pieces, allowing younger players to enjoy themselves while playing.

  • They are easy to clean because they are dishwasher safe.
  • Players are divided into two teams, and in the spirit of past Watch Ya Mouth games, the person who has gone the longest without cleaning his or her teeth goes first in this game, which is played in two rounds.
  • Before the timer runs out, the player’s teammates must correctly guess as many cards as they can.
  • The Ultimate edition of the game is available now.
  • “Old mother hubbard walked to the cupboard,” for example, or “Bob’s duty is to swab that thingamabob” are examples of rhyming phrases that appear on Rhyme Time cards.
  • With cards such as “Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC?” and “Wakanda everlasting salute,” they rely heavily on nostalgia from the 1990s and 2000s while also include contemporary allusions and images.
  • One of the words on the card is chosen by the player who drew it, and the other two are chosen by the player who drew the card and challenged a teammate.
  • Assuming the reader wins, his or her team receives a point for their efforts, and the reader then continues until the timer runs out.
  • In this final showdown, even though some of the cards are difficult to read, there are no skips allowed.
  • The length of the game will vary depending on the number of participants, as the game technically comes to an end after each player has taken a turn as reader.
  • Having said that, these mouthpieces and cards may be just as entertaining for less structured play as they are for regulated play.

With 200 cards in the deck, there is plenty of time to play before the cards become too familiar. In addition, there is a Watch Ya Mouthapp, which has more than 3,000 more words for even more amusement and entertainment. Basically, the good times never end!

How to play Watch Ya’ Mouth Throwdown Edition

  • While speaking in a foreign language, it’s difficult to keep your mouth shut. Several players work together in Watch Ya Mouth Ultimate, a game developed byBuffalo Games for children aged 8 and above, in order to persuade their colleagues to comprehend what they are saying. While doing so, the participants appear rather amusing. In this game, players take turns wearing a plastic mouth expander, which pulls the gums away from their teeth in a manner similar to what you would wear at the dentist. There are little and big mouth pieces included in this set, allowing younger players to enjoy themselves on the instrument. Always remember to maintain good hygiene while playing
  • The guards should be cleansed before each usage as well as after each game. To make cleaning a breeze, they are dishwasher safe. During the course of the game, each participant will have their own mouthpiece from the set’s ten pieces (six big, four little). Players are divided into two teams, and in the spirit of past Watch Ya Mouth games, the player who has gone the longest without cleaning his or her teeth goes first in this game, which is played in the morning. In order to take his or her turn as “reader,” a player must insert the mouth piece, flip the timer, and then read what is printed on the game card that has been dealt to them. Before the countdown expires, the player’s teammates must accurately predict as many cards as they possibly can. Despite the fact that this does not appear to be a difficult task, the mouthpiece makes it difficult to understand what the reader is saying (as does all of the laughter that is guaranteed to ensue!) But instead of only featuring phrases, this Ultimate edition of the game changes things up by adding four distinct sorts of cards: Ultimate (which includes phrases), Rhyme Time (which includes rhymes), Pop Culture (which includes pop culture), and Head-to-Head. “The fair is a wonderful buffet,” and “Bodacious bouncy newborn boys,” are just a few of the extremely difficult words that have been submitted by members of the public for consideration as ultimate cards. “Old mother hubbard walked to the cupboard,” for example, or “Bob’s duty is to swab that thingamabob” are some of the rhyming lines that appear on Rhyme Time cards. Possibly the most enjoyable, and possibly the simplest, are those using pop culture references since they frequently make more sense. Using slogans like “Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC?,” and “Wakanda eternally salute,” they tap on the nostalgia of the 1990s and 2000s while also including contemporary references. In addition to pausing the round, the Head-to-Head cards provide a new twist to the game’s mechanics. The card has three extremely tough words (for example, mumbly, believe, muffler, or bumpkin), and the player who drew the card chooses one of the terms and challenges a member of the other side. A word is picked by the reader and shown to his or her opponent. Then the two players compete to see who can get their colleagues to identify the word right quickest. The reader receives a point if he or she wins the round, and the reader continues to play until the timer runs out. A win for the opposition results in a point for them and the game is switched to their side. In this last confrontation, even if some of the cards are difficult to see, there are no skips permitted. Bonus cards, which are worth two points each, are the only cards that players can choose not to play. It is possible that the game will last longer or shorter depending on the number of participants, as the game technically finishes once each player has taken a turn reading aloud. After each team has tallied its scores (one point for each card correctly predicted and two points for each bonus card), the team with the most points wins. In spite of this, playing with these mouth pieces and playing cards may be just as entertaining when the game is less organized. Consider the following scenario: two players can take turns reading cards to each other while wearing the mouthpieces – it may not be as competitive, but there will be plenty of laughing anyway (and drool). It takes a long time to become familiar with the cards in this game because it has 200 of them. Also available is the Watch Ya Mouthapp, which has over 3,000 more words for even more entertainment. In short, the good times never end!

Game Play

  1. Throwdown Cards and Phrase Cards should be separated and shuffled separately before being placed face down
  2. Each player will take turns competing against the other players. Every single Throwdown challenge involves the use of a mouthpiece. There will be drooling
  3. The player who has been without cleaning their teeth for the longest period of time takes the initial turn
  4. DURING YOUR TURN, roll the Throwdown Dice to determine who your opponent will be for the remainder of the turn: Draw a Throwdown Card from the deck and follow the directions on the card to complete the challenge. It will instruct you on how to play and whether or not you are required to draw a Phrase Card. Players are unable to pass on a Throwdown
  5. Both players place a mouthpiece in their mouths when they are ready to compete
  6. The winner of a Throwdown receives the card that was won in the competition. Unless a player is required to choose a teammate for the turn and wins the Throwdown, only that player is awarded the card – not the teammate. To begin a timed Throwdown, just toggle the timer to the on position. If a player is successful, the timer should be stopped by turning it over on its side. When the next player is ready, increase the speed of the timer so that the sand that fell during the first turn is now being consumed. To win, this player must complete the Throwdown before the sand runs out
  7. Otherwise, the first player wins! There is no winner for that card if neither player completes a Throwdown before time runs out
  8. Once the Throwdown is won by one player, or lost by both players, the turn is finished. Play proceeds in a clockwise direction to the next player on the left, after which a new round is initiated
  9. There are four rounds in each game. A round is considered completed when each player has taken one turn.

End of the Game

Separate the Throwdown Cards and Phrase Cards into two separate decks, shuffle each, and place them face down on the table; each player will take turns competing against the other. An oral device is used in every Throwdown competition. The player who has gone the longest without cleaning their teeth gets to take the first turn; and, yes, you will drool. THEN, ON YOUR TURN, roll the Throwdown Dice to choose who your opponent will be for the remainder of the turn: Draw a Throwdown Card from the deck and follow the directions on the card to complete the challenge.

  • In a Throwdown, players cannot pass; both players place a mouthpiece in their mouths when they are ready to compete; and the winner of a Throwdown receives the card that was won in the competition.
  • Timed Throwdowns are initiated by pressing the timer button.
  • When the next player is ready, increase the speed of the timer such that the sand that fell during the first turn is now running out of space.
  • There is no winner for that card if neither player completes a Throwdown before time runs out; if the Throwdown is won by one player, or lost by both players, the turn is over; A new turn is initiated when the play moves clockwise one position to the right of the previous player.
  • When each player has gone once, the round is considered complete.

House Rules

In certain Challenges, you’ll discover that there is a little room for interpretation – for example, how the Throwdown is executed, what “Winning” actually means, what constitutes “Cheating,” and so on. We recommend that you address these situations by holding a group vote on what your set of house rules should be when they arise.

In response, my husband simply shook his head and turned to walk away, murmuring under his breath, “what a waste of money.” My adult daughter and I looked up terms on the internet and tried them out, including rubber, baby buggy bumpers, and bible book club – the results were a little garbled, but we had no trouble comprehending what was being said.- Don’t let your money go to waste.

However, there is one bright spot: they would be perfect for the annual family Christmas photo.

I’m having a lot of fun playing this game with my friends and family.

Many customers have complained about receiving counterfeit merchandise, therefore I recommend checking that your vendor is Amazon or Watch Ya’ Mouth.

I’m planning on getting the adult version for use at gatherings.

Since then, Hasbro and other companies have created knockoffs of the original game to sell.

Even so, it’s rather amusing.

The words and phrases used in the family addition are all suitable and should not result in any unintentional or inappropriate noises such as swearing or other profanity.

This version was excellent, although, as I have stated, some of the words are very simplistic.

A good feature is that it comes with two different-sized mouth parts.

The mouthpieces are removable and dishwasher safe, making cleanup a breeze.

This game is fantastic!

We attempted to create new cards, but one individual quickly realized that they already knew all of the cards, making the activity uninteresting for them.

Hopefully, this will resolve the ONE and ONLY problem.

Before you play, be sure you floss and rinse your teeth thoroughly.

Oh!

It’s much more entertaining when played with English language learners—the bemused expressions I get from students when a native speaker tries to identify what words they spoke are priceless, and it’s a terrific way to improve your pronunciation.

It was a big hit at a family gathering when I brought it.

We were laughing so hard that we were crying.

Two distinct sizes of mouth pieces are included in this game: one for adults and another for children.

We had a great time playing this for three or four days in a row.

We had to skip a few cards because we didn’t know what they were or how to speak them (primarily pop culture cards), but there are so many cards that I don’t think it will be a problem.

You gaze at them, take the smaller one in your hand, and wrap your lips over it.

OMG, it hurts!

It took me a while to realize that if you are 12 or older, you need to use the large one instead.

It’s difficult to get it into your mouth, but it’s more comfortable and doesn’t dig into your gums or teeth. Then get a tube of Vaseline to use on everyone’s lips afterward. This game does not fail to impress! The greater the number of individuals with whom you play, the more fun you will have.
